Why Now
All over the world arts professionals, people with dementia and their caregivers are exploring the power of the creative arts to bring joy. Engagement with art does not depend on memory. The colors in a painting, the harmony of a song or the movement of a dance, touch our emotions and stimulate the mind.
While we do not yet have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, medical management can improve quality of life for diagnosed individuals and their care partners. Pharmacological treatments should be accompanied by active engagement in life. Arts & Minds activities create positive experiences, enhance communication and reduce isolation to improve well-being.
